Waterberg Welfare Society Trust

The Waterberg Welfare Society Trust (WWST) was set up in the UK in 2006 to promote the welfare of those infected with HIV/AIDS and their dependents and dependents of those who have died of AIDS. They promote education and other activities aimed at preventing the spread of HIV/AIDS, and in particular provide a means of supporting the WWS with tax-efficient donations from the UK.

WWST Trustee Profiles

There are four trustees.

Mrs Jane Whitbread - Founder of the Waterberg Welfare Society in 2000 and chairman from 2000-2004, whilst resident in the Waterberg on a game reserve with her husband and 4 children. Returned to the UK in 2004 and set up the WWST in 2006 as a means of supporting the WWS.
Mrs Sophie Williams Thomas - Founder committee member of the WWS, having been involved in the local mission while working in the Waterberg for 12 years as a wildlife artist. Since 2004, Sophie has been living in England where she has mounted art exhibitions and produced cards of her paintings to raise funds for the WWS. In so doing, she recognised the need to set up WWST as a UK charity.
Mrs Wilhelmina Loudon-Barnaart - A landowner in the Waterberg but resident in Holland, a trustee of the WWST since its inception and a board member of WWS. Her particular interest and focus is the welfare of the orphans and vulnerable children. She also runs the second-hand shop in Vaalwater that provides low-cost clothing to the local community.
Mr Barry Burles - Trustee of the WWST since its inception. His experience and knowledge includes project development and formulation of pharmaceutical products that enhance immune levels and reduce infection through disinfectants that do not require water. He is involved in developing biotechnology across the breadth of the science: food, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, diagnostics, water and the environment.
